The mind behind Resilient Academy

“I’m on a mission to help people cultivate
resilience and develop confidence.”

For the past two decades, this has been my focus as a therapist.  Over and over again, I would notice that clients did not yet have the skills that they needed to enhance their ability to bounce back after setbacks and to navigate the landscape of interactions with other humans to create a life that they could be excited about.

More importantly, most of them believed that these were traits that other people had and that somehow they were broken or deficient.

Overcoming our own insecurities to grow more resilient.

During my 20 years of experience as a therapist, I noticed that many of the skills that I taught my clients are required for creating positive work cultures and enhancing professional development.  This lead me to explore a variety of tools and develop workshops to address topics that support my clients in their personal and professional development.

It’s my goal to help as many people as possible realize that resilience is the result of a variety of habits which anyone can learn and practice.  Spreading this message through teaching these skills happens in keynote talks, in-services and team development seminars, in person and online workshops.

Pizza and confidence.

Being raised by a mother who was one of eight children meant that resourcefulness, work ethic and speaking up were core skills that she lived, breathed, and shared with myself and my brother.  From an early age, she expected us to develop independence and communication skills that were beyond what was expected of most of my peers.  For example, instead of ordering pizza for us she would ask us to clarify the order with whomever was included, look up the phone number in the phone book and make the call to place the order; and with good phone manners!  I remember during one particular sleepover when I was about 10, a friend was being indecisive about her input in the Domino’s order and my mother said in her typical firm and loving way, “I can’t help you get what you want unless you speak up.”

This simple message carries through into my passion for helping people articulate their values, needs, and preferences in a more effective way.  I find that the skills required to do this are essential in helping people deal with life’s challenges and create connected relationships with the people around them.  That translates to more positive cultures and true harmony rather than false facades and surface level interactions.

“We are all resilient, and we are all powerful.”
